Practicing Non-generalizing

Without telling your friend, pretend that he or she is someone you are meeting for the first time. Or imagine it’s the first time you’ve driven down this familiar street, and want to describe it to someone back home.

Take anything out of the box you’ve put it in, so that you can experience it freshly.

For an even simpler example, see if you can hear a bird without the thought, “cardinal” or “sparrow”; just hear the sound as a sound, minus your category.
