Practicing De-restlessness

Unhooking from restlessness has a cost: it does cut you deeply. Your “detox” may require a week or an hour or a year, but coming off the drug of “drivenness” will reward you greatly.

It’s easy to spot: just notice when you feel a desperate “I’ve got to . . . .”

Don’t give in to it. Just sit and breathe into this restlessness and notice what it’s like. If possible, stay there until you settle down. If life won’t wait, do it tonight instead of watching TV, or arguing with your partner, or “surfing.”

Give your “hard-drive” time to “de-fragment” or “optimize.”
